Shoppers rushed to stores this Black Friday in Southeast Texas, but it’s not only the big box retailers that are staying busy.
Cars lined the streets of Boston Avenue in Nederland as shoppers began their holiday shopping at small businesses in the area.
Small business owners are encouraging people to buy from local retailers ahead of Small Business Saturday (11/25).
“We’re parents and I’m a mother of twins and this is my life also,” says Jill Provost, owner of Chatzkie’s Home Decor.
She shares a building with her friend owns the Sassy Trendz Boutique in Nederland.
“We want people to come and support us small businesses,” says Provost. “We’ve worked so hard to get it together.”
According to a statement from Governor Greg Abbott, more than 98 percent of all businesses in Texas are considered “small businesses.”
Last year, more than $14 billion was spent at small businesses on Small Business Saturday, according to the Texas Retailers Association.
